Tim Johnson grew up under the instruction of two great teachers
in the Bible, his mother and his grandmother. They are the backbone of who Tim
turned out to be today. Tim's family sang together and would be in church any
time the doors were open. Tim states “That should be everyone's childhood memories”.
Tim and his family, three older sisters and parents, would all sing along with The
Cathedrals Quartet riding down the road. When Tim was growing up he was singing
all the time whether it was with his family, doing solo work, or leading music
at the First Baptist Church of Wilson, Louisiana, where he became minister of
music at age 15. "My parents were always encouraging me to do my best and to
listen to God."
Graduating a year early from high school put Tim on the road at the
age of 17, but God had his hand in everything Tim did. One month out of school, Tim
was accepted into Life Action Ministries, a revival based crusade team, as a singer
where he toured for two years. God's provision and bounty became evident when Tim
met the young lady who would become his beautiful always-smiling wife, Tammy Bolton.
Tammy was a children's worker from Indiana, traveling with Life Action Ministries.
Tim and Tammy quickly hit it off and both knew that they would be a part of each
other's lives forever.
After Life Action Ministries, Tim and Tammy moved to Jackson, LA where
Tim taught at the Jackson Christian Academy. Tim also took a position as assistant
pastor and youth director at Jackson Baptist Church. The couple next served on staff
at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Busy Corner, Mississippi where Tim and Tammy worked
with the teenagers and in the children's ministry programs and Tim preached as
associate pastor.
Tim loves God and loves to sing. “I give God all the glory for my talents,
and I will use them as he sees fit,” Tim states. No one thought that there would be any
way that he would be able to sing with The Providentials due to his ministry
responsibilities, but God said otherwise. Tim explains "God has always been the reason
for everything I do, some people don't understand that, but I have to do what God
tells me to do”.
In July, 2004 Tim felt the call of God to serve as a house parent at the
Baptist Childrens Village in Jackson, Mississippi. Serving in this capacity has allowed
Tim and Tammy to lead young people with challenging backgrounds in the way of the Lord.
