LANE REED BIOGRAPHY

Reed began singing southern gospel music at an early age in a little Methodist church located in McCall Creek, Mississippi. Reed, whose style embraces many of the techniques of the legendary Statesmen baritone Doy Ott, grew up mimicking singers like R. W. Blackwood, and strives to achieve solid harmony and rhythm that these great men exemplified. Reed, a lifelong southern gospel music fan, was influenced early in his career by the Statesmen, the Blackwood Brothers, the Happy Goodmans, the Cathedrals and the Stanley brothers. Reed previously sang bass with the Gospel Revelations based in Franklin Spur, Mississippi, and with the Pilgrim’s Rest Quartet, an a cappella quartet, based in Sixtown, Mississippi.

Reed is a resident of Meadville, Mississippi where he practices law in the law firm of McGehee, McGehee & Torrey. Reed is an active member and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Bude, Mississippi.

Reed’s respect for earlier quartet singing is reflected in his ability to breathe new life into an old song while still reflecting the era in which the song was written.

Reed has been blessed with a tremendous ability to pick out and sing parts. His talents have proven to be a great asset to the ministry of The Providentials. Because he was so influenced by the Christian example set by his mother, Reed hopes that his work in the music ministry will make a strong impression on those to whom he sings.

Reed's powerful baritone voice adds depth and tones to songs like "Right There By My Side", written by lead singer and emcee Joe Young, which inspires the hearts of audiences. Young states, “Lane brings a whole new dimension to The Providentials. I have never met anyone that has a greater love for southern gospel music. He possesses a tremendous knowledge of the history of southern gospel music and can answer most any question you might have about any group or member of a group. He is a wonderful person and singer. We are thankful for what he has added to The Providentials.”
